WHAT A PUB!!! With camping, live music, good food & great friendly service! It's definitely an experience. Writing your name anywhere you can find space to a book swap to a museum with croc skulls & snakes to browsing all the items people have left there over the years. Licences, shirts, shoes, hats, messages & more. An absolute must see when you're in the Cooktown area. It was definitely a highlight for us 🐍🍻🏕🎸🐊
Lions Den is a iconic place and a must stopover, cold beers and good food, plenty of historic artefacts, but the rooms at $90 a night a nothing more than a rip off, wall rattler aircons that really rattle, basic bunk bed, rooms are shocking and then its the hike to the toilets/showers (yep, at $90 a night and no onsuite with a hike for ablutions), I'm surprised that they can actually still rent them out as accommodation. Been there a number of times but won't be back unless something changes. And that really takes away from everything else.
The pub was nice and interesting but 2 of 3 bar staff that served me weren't. If you are a smoker/vape all they have for you is a broken gazebo in the hot sun. There is a phonebox out the front for those who don't get reception as there is no wifi.
What can I say about this hotel at Rossville near Cooktown other than it has character in spades and is unique in my experience. |A completely disorganised bar with customer writing everywhere and a great outdoor area to dine and imbibe. …
This place is a gem!! Loads of character and good old fashioned Aussie charm. Plenty of cold beers etc... and the wood fired pizza is the best 👌🏽.. live music with a great vibe. Powered site for our van was at a good price.
The meal was terrible , hadn’t been for 20 years and won’t be back .
Had the chicken burger , roll was that dry and stale , one piece of lettuce and tomato for $26 . Don’t mind paying when it’s nice . Had way better burgers in more remote places than this . No excuse when they are busy with good turn over . Lift your game Covid is over and people do and will go else where .
Another iconic Aussie hotel. While getting there is no longer the adventure it used to be, it’s still a convenient stop on the Cape Trib - Cooktown Road or even if your taking the bitumen road from Lakeland to Cooktown it only 5 minutes off the Mullligan highway. (About 1/2 hr from Cooktown). It’s very popular and gets very very busy in holiday times. Lots of old historical paraphernalia. The beers cold, the food is ok but avoid lunch time if possible, lots of tour busses call in here for lunch over the dry season.
Was surprised the management didn’t tell us. There was a charity event that evening, which meant that every motorcycle organisation from Cairns to Cooktown, attended the area. camping facilities were very limited.|Service was excellent and the beers were cold.
Interesting. Just stopped to have a drink and checkout this legendary pub. Lots of paraphernalia on the walls. Some interesting characters hang out there.
Great outback pub atmosphere. Loved the music especially the dreadlock haired singer and the old fella on the cow bones. Cheap drinks, good meals and facility. An absolute must gor the outback camper experience
